This Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Leukaemia UK is raising awareness of the disease and its signs and symptoms; bringing together the leukaemia research community to accelerate progress through life-changing research; and raising money to make sure that the next person diagnosed has the best possible experience of diagnosis, treatment and care.
Blood cancer is the fifth most common and third greatest cancer killer in the UK and Every 16 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer.
Every day 27 people are newly diagnosed with leukaemia – a type of blood cancer – and sadly 13 people lose their lives.
Despite decades of progress, only half of leukaemia patients live longer than five years after their diagnosis. We won’t stop until we change this. Read about our plans this September, and find out how you can get involved in Blood Cancer Awareness Month and join us in stopping leukaemia devastating lives.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Start Date: 01/09/2023
End Date: 30/09/2023
Most childhood cancers are the result of DNA changes that happen early in the child’s life, sometimes even before birth. Every time a cell divides into two new cells, it must copy its DNA. This process isn’t perfect, and errors sometimes occur, especially when the cells are growing quickly. Most of the time, these errors can be corrected by the cell. But when the genetic errors are so extensive that the cell cannot function normally, special genes order that the cell die for the good of the body as a whole.
When these corrections are not made, or when a diseased cell fails to self-destruct, cell growth and division can begin to break free of their constraints to become cancer cells.

Organ Donation Week
Start Date: 18/09/2023
End Date: 24/09/2023
Organ donation is when you decide to give an organ to save or transform the life of someone else.
You can donate some organs while you are alive, and this is called living organ donation.
However, most organ and tissue donations come from people who have died.
Across the UK, more than 1,000 people each year donate a kidney or part of their liver while they are still alive to a relative, friend or someone they do not know.
The most commonly donated organ by a living person is a kidney. A healthy person can lead a normal life with only one functioning kidney and therefore they are able to donate the other to help someone in need of a kidney transplant. Part of a liver can also be transplanted from a living donor to help someone in need of a liver transplant.

UK National Inclusion Week
Start Date: 25/09/2023
End Date: 30/09/2023
What is inclusion?
Many of us have thought, what is inclusivity? And what does it mean to be truly inclusive?
Inclusion is critical to society, and we must all work together to make equal and diverse spaces everywhere we go. This does not mean you have to know everything, but understanding what inclusivity means is a good place to start.
At Inclusive Employers, we focus on workplace inclusion. Inclusion is an overarching culture encompassing diversity, equality, and many other aspects of our working lives.
It would be naïve to think that by focusing on inclusion, we automatically mitigate the inequalities that exist in the workplace.
With inclusion as our objective, we are much more likely to see greater diversity in our workforces, fair treatment of everyone and greater equality of opportunities as outcomes.
Equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace are crucial to a successful organisation. However, there will inevitably be challenges along the way.
Feeling included is a key aspect of human life. Many of us can recall a sense of exclusion: moments when we felt left out; other; different; that we weren’t welcome or weren’t appreciated.
Inclusion is the reverse: making people feel welcome; ensuring that it is safe for them to express who they choose to be; demonstrating our appreciation for their input; working collaboratively and showing we care.
People spend the majority of their time at work, so it’s critical that they feel safe and respected. The advantages of inclusion and diversity in the workplace are numerous, with main benefits including a large pool of talent, a positive culture, and mutual respect throughout.

International Week Of Happiness at Work
Start Date: 25/09/2023
End Date: 29/09/2023
Everybody wants to be happy. Also at work. We spend a lot of time at work after all. Plus, when we are happy at work, we are likely to also be happier in the rest of our life. We believe that Happiness at Work should be on the list of top priorities of all organizations, big and small, national and international. That’s why we declared the last week of September, in 2023, 25 – 29, the International Week of Happiness at Work. Join us!
Happiness at Work should be a top priority for all companies. Because this is good for employees: when they are happy at work, they are better parents, friends, neighbors, they are more likely to give to charity and do volunteering work. Don’t we all want to have nice neighbors? Yes we do! But also because science and business have shown that happy employees have a huge advantage over unhappy ones. They are more productive, flexible, resilient, creative, make happier customers and work better with their colleagues. Wouldn’t we all want happy employees? Yes, we do.

Black History Month is a momentous occasion to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people to British society. It also serves as an opportunity to inspire and empower future generations. This year, Black History Month will be dedicated to honouring the achievements of black women who are often the forgotten heroines. We want to amplify their voices and challenge the systems that oppress them.
Black people have always been at the forefront of social justice movements, fighting against oppression and paving the way for change. However, despite their countless contributions to society, the achievements of black women in particular, have too often been overlooked or forgotten. That is why, this year, we will be celebrating the exceptional achievements of black women.
